Barn dancing is a living tradition in the Roaring Fork Valley. For generations, people in mountain and ranching communities have gathered in barns, halls, and community spaces to make music, dance, visit with neighbors, and celebrate together. The Roaring Fork Valley Contra Dance carries that tradition forward.
With roots in the old-time social dances of rural America, contra and barn dancing are meant to be shared. A caller teaches each dance and guides everyone through the steps, while musicians bring the room to life with traditional dance tunes. No experience and no partner are needed.
Our dances are open to people of all ages—from children and families to longtime dancers and elders. Everyone is invited onto the floor. It’s a place where generations can dance side by side, newcomers can quickly become part of the community, and an old Valley tradition can continue to grow.
Come dance, listen to the music, meet your neighbors, and take part in a tradition that is still very much alive in the Roaring Fork Valley.
